HOUSTON--Astronaut Eugene A. Cernan, commander of the Apollo 17 mission to the moon, said Friday he thought there were planets similar to earth in outer space as well as other civilizations.
Cernan, told a news conference: "I'm one of those guys who has never seen a UFO (unidentified flying object). But I've said publicly I thought they were something else, some other civilization.
"... Statistically, when you get out there, and you look at the infinity of time and the infinity of space, which is something none of us can really understand, but exists--and I know it because I saw it--and you look how small our earth is..."
[Rest of the article goes on about the possibility of other civilizations, not Cernan taking UFOs seriously]
